Daily Microaggressions

Just came across this article that highlights "microaggressions" of homophobia that members of the LGBT community encounter on a daily basis (Hey, I did say I'd include gay rights whenever possible, right?), and I thought it connected well to the reading about racism. Although overt racism, and similarly overt homophobia may be declining as a whole, there are still countless "microaggressions"that members of both groups face daily. Again, many of these are products of social norms, such as asking a non-heterosexual couple who the "man" in the relationship is. It is so ingrained in our heads that relationships have one male and one female role that we go as far as to try and apply that to relationships in which there is no man, or no woman. Still, that is no excuse to propagate the ignorance, and microaggressions such as these could very easily be wiped out if people were more conscious of them.

This is the article that the LGBT one was inspired by, which deals with racial microaggressions. This article actually refutes what I said about overt racism being on a decline, as some of the microaggressions listed were more than just innocent slip-ups on the behalf of the aggressor; they are blatantly racist statements.
